Hello and welcome 2017!!! I hope you all had an amazing end of the year. I know I did! Staying in Vienna for the holidays yielded an incredibly relaxing couple of months. I am feeling refreshed and re-inspired and am looking forward to what this new year has to bring. Here is a look at my 2017 goals:
1. Travel Someplace New
Yes, yes and more yes. I also made this a goal at the beginning of 2016 and will probably always make this a goal for each year to come. In 2016 I visited 2 new countries and several new cities. For this coming year, Eric and I have already mapped out a trip to the far east, which will take place in the fall. We are looking forward to the girls being a little older so we can start traveling again alone as a couple.
2. Recycle Everything
I am ashamed to admit that for most of my life I haven’t given a thought to recycling. Moving to Austria 4 1/2 years ago, I was shocked to see how important recycling is to this country and how conscious people are of it. In Austria, at the very least, you are given an extra bin for your paper. In our village you also get a bin for “Bio” waste. This bin is for organic waste like juicing pulp and lawn clippings, for example. I have been separating our trash into these three bins for some time now, but have recently felt like I need to be doing more. I cook a ton for our family, so consequently our plastic, metal and glass waste piles up quickly. Conveniently, our village has these incredible recycling stations set up all over town for this kind of waste. Now I take Elin down to the recycling station and we sort everything out together. At certain stations, there are bins for used clothes and shoes as well, which will come in handy later on. I feel so much better about what I am throwing away and have also become more conscious of what I am buying and how I can recycle the packaging.
3. Renovate Exterior of House
With the exception of some small detail projects, we are done, done, done with the interior of our house! (Before & After posts of the kitchen and living/dining are sure to come in the next couple weeks/months as I finish decorating.) Our focus this new year will be on the exterior. We have already contacted our contractor for estimates on the work we want to have done and are looking forward to getting the ball rolling. No longer will we be the ugliest house on the block!
4. New Year, New Me…Here Comes 30!
I always find that at approx. 6 months postpartum, I feel like myself again. My hair has stopped falling out (it was awful this time), my hormones have regulated (no longer a crazy person), and we are all in a good routine with baby Juni, who is sleeping like a champ. It’s a time when I can start to focus on myself again for the first time in MONTHS. This year I am turning 30 and I want to welcome the decade feeling the best I have ever felt. However, to feel comfortable in my own skin again, I am undergoing a little self improvement project for the next couple months. Wish me luck!
5. Quality > Quantity
I want to apply this to everything in my life from the trivial (clothing, food & wine) to the important (family, friends & adventures). As I get older, I seek richer experiences, closer relationships and higher quality goods and services. I would rather have a few of something extraordinary, than a boatload of something worthless. Sort if an abstract goal, but it’s something I hope to keep in mind this year.
Sidenote: I am going to be busy getting my business together this year, so it leaves less time for me to commit to blogging. I plan to post new content every Friday, but I won’t be posting consistently on Mondays like I have in the past. Monday posts will be a little more sporadic, but I am not eliminating them completely! Just be sure to check in every once in a while for updates! I hope to get back to posting twice or three times a week in the future, but right now it’s just not in the cards. Thanks as always for your support in reading! xoxo T
These photos were taken off of our balcony this morning. We have been having some beautifully frosty mornings and I just had to capture it and share with you!
